Vegan Monday: Biscotti With Dried Dates, Dried Plums And Macadamia Nuts
Biscotti. Oh how I love it. I made and published in the blog different kinds of biscottis before. They all had eggs. This one is an eggless vegan one!

I know, I know… I look like I am obsessed with focaccia as I’ve been publishing many focaccia recipes lately (at least sharing many focaccia photos on instagram story..). Well that is because I guess I am a bit obsessed really!
A few months ago I posted a focaccia recipe with lots of basil and olive oil on top. Since then, I’ve been baking focaccia with different toppings for many occasions, from caterings to friends dinners. This topping is yet slightly traditional, but there is one special ingredient in it – a Slovenian herbal salt that my friend Helena brought as a gift from home.
Yes! The spring is finally here and it is not so cold outside anymore. Yet, this doesn’t mean that we don’t need soup now! Because soup, especially one which is as colourful and rich as this one, is good for every day, any day!
The smell of basil has to be one of the best things in the world. It brings a fresh, soft taste to anything it is added to. It even goes well in a sweet cake as I used in one of my recipes a few weeks ago (blogpost here). This focaccia bread is full of fresh basil and olive oil – there’s a lot of both, but it’s not overwhelming.
There is one word I want to use to describe these sticks: NOM! Ok, I’m not sure if it’s a real word, but it surely describes how delicious these breadsticks are.
I absolutely love using citrus family in recipes. When I baked this cake the other day, my apartment smelled crazy with lemon and orange. It was the freshest moment of the week, to be honest.
I LOVE vegetables. I am not vegetarian, officially. But in practice, I actually lead a vegetarian life. My catering menus and eating events are also almost always vegetarian. Among all, there is one vegetable that I cannot live without: eggplant! (And I cannot go back and check now, but I probably said this over and over again in my previous eggplant recipes…)
I ate (and made) many different kinds of biscotti all my life, but there is something about this one that takes biscotti to a new, higher level for my taste. I think it is the rather simplicity of it, and the freshness brought by lemon-lime-orange zest combo and of course, the equally zestful Sambuca, Italian herb liqueur. I saw a similar recipe in Italian Food Safari on SBS a few months ago, and working on it a few times, I made my own version of it.
A few weeks ago, while I was looking for food related documentaries or programs on Youtube to spend some time, I found “Food Safari Italy” by Australian TV network SBS. It is actually a series of programs that consist of several seasons, called “Food Safari” and in most of the episodes, they visit another cuisine. For Italian and French cuisines though, they made several episodes. Watching the Italian episodes make you drool so much that if you watch it in the middle of the night, you can’t sleep for long hours because of feeling hungry!
