So, I associate ginger / ginger cake with winter mostly. That’s why I made it often in the past few months. Most of them were regular cakes but this one is gluten free!

  • Orange And Ladyfinger Dessert – So Refreshing!

    by Asli

When I was in Istanbul last month, I tried to find out the recipe for the one dessert I missed for many many years. This orange jelly dessert, that I remembered a bit differently, was one that my mother made all the time when I was a kid. It was one of my favourite dishes in the world. And then she stopped making it....

I admit. I haven’t felt inspired to write for a while. I’ve been baking & cooking as usual, so it’s not about food. But I just felt like doing other things, like reading – I purchased many books lately about food justice, feminism and seed sovereignty. So I’ve been reading them. And I also went to a 2-weeks holiday in Istanbul during new year...

  • Vegan Monday: Phyllo Apple Pie With Walnuts And Cinnamon

    by Asli

So, I’ve never been a fan of apple pies, really. But it goes back to my dislike for heavy pie doughs. That’s why when I made this pie, using phyllo sheets as the pie dough, I absolutely loved it – it is so so much lighter and crispier, and indeed flakier than other pies.

Quote of The Week

I went to a restaurant that serves 'breakfast at any time'. So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.

Here is my morning snack: kiwi, strawberry and yogurt! Hi everyone! I’ve officially been a vegetarian last week on Tuesday (so you can think of me as a baby vegetarian) and so far it’s been very easy! Why? Erm, because I haven’t been eating meat anyway eheh. So I just made it official last week. And since then, I’ve been following a nice, regular eating pattern. I was skipping meals a lot lately and not eating that healthy, so I’m now back on track. This morning I had some tomatoes and cheese, because I cannot live a day without cheese (and this is one of the two things that keep me from being a vegan actually..). (Edit: I also had tea of course! 😍) The other thing I have to eat every day is yogurt. That’s why this simple snack is the best thing for me. Actually, mix any fruit or vegetable with yogurt and I’ll be fine! Well well, gotta go back to work now, have a lovely day! xox ——————————————————- #freshvegetarian #babyvegetarian #ilovevegetables #ilovefruits #iloveyogurt #healthyliving #healthyeating #ruokakuva #foodie #foodiegram #foodblog #instafood #foodporn #foodgasm #foodphotography #foodphotooftheday #foodpics #olympussuomi #feedfeed #helsinki #kallio #torkkelinmäki #foodtodiefor
Good evening cake lovers! Hope you've had a lovely February 14th, or "Friends' Day" as we call it in Finland! I have a lovely cake recipe for you today. You can try it this weekend and invite your friends over to eat it together: gluten free ginger cake with lots spices, cream cheese frosting and any decoration you like. Direct link to the recipe is in my profile. Have a great weekend! ❤️ —————————————————— #hyvääystävänpäivää #friendsday #glutenfreecake #glutenfreebaking #glutenfreegingercake #gingercake #edibleflowers #creamcheesefrosting #ruokakuva #foodie #foodiegram #foodblog #instafood #foodporn #foodgasm #foodphotography #foodphotooftheday #foodpics #olympussuomi #feedfeed #helsinki #kallio #torkkelinmäki #foodtodiefor #glutenfree #ilovebaking #bakingismylife
I ran from one adventure to another again in my dream last night. First I was the leader of a rebel movement in Mongolia (rebelling against what I don’t know 😯) but it didn’t end well for the people. 😔 Then I negotiated with Obama about my so-called rebellion (though i still don’t remember against what 🙄) but he was very angry with me so there wasn’t much of an agreement in the end. And finally, i found myself watching a live Moulin Rouge musical starring a red haired Anne Hathaway and I was not happy because, 1. I hate musicals, 2. I’m really not fond of Anne Hathaway. 🙄 (photo snatched from google images, belongs to the Snow Leopard Trust website aiming to protect endangered snow leopards.) #dreamdiary ——————————————————- #weirddream #torkkelinmäki #inmydream #lastnight #mongolia #rebelrebel #moulinrouge #barackobama #annehathaway #ihatemusicals #politicaldreams #whatsgoingon #helsinki #kallio #wednesdaymood #wednesdaymorning
Hello friends! Lately I've been visiting some of my old baking recipes to make gluten free versions of them. I'm trying different gluten free flour types and working on the measurements to make the new versions taste the same as the original one and to adjust the texture. This chili chocolate cookie recipe I posted in 2017 is now updated and you will see how a very simple change is enough to make it gluten free! And it's been a hit among cookie lovers! Direct link to the recipe is in my profile. Have a great day! ❤️ —————————————————— #chocolatechilicookies #whitechocolate #chilichocolate #chilichocolatecookies #ruokakuva #foodie #foodiegram #foodblog #instafood #foodporn #foodgasm #foodphotography #foodphotooftheday #foodpics #olympussuomi #feedfeed #helsinki #kallio #torkkelinmäki #foodtodiefor #glutenfree #cookiemonster
Hellouu! It took me a few days to put this post eheh. 😬 But well, I had to put this here anyway! I didn’t quite understand how January passed, did you?? I mean, 2019 is almost over! 😧 I spent the last week of January with a nice bit of flu, but it’s over now. So instead, it’s now time to break a bone or two in the icy streets of Helsinki (i hope not!!). 😌 February will pass by busy too. I haven’t been very active on the blog or even in here lately, I’ve had problems with inspiration and all. But I feel motivated again so I will be seen around more soon! Have a great month everyone! <3 —————————————————- #february2019 #anewmonth #februarybegan #monthlyplans #busyplans #mondaymood #fluisover #trallallaaa #iwonder #ifanybody #isreadingmyhashtags #hmmm #helsinki #kallio #torkkelinmäki
Game of Thrones dream (with one spoiler): So, I had a dream where Ned Stark was alive but was very sick, having flu. He was brought to Winterfell and we, his kids (yes I was one of the Stark kids) tried to heal him. We put him in a bed on top of Winterfell, outside, because snow and cold made Starks healthier apparently. 🙄 While everything else was full medieval just like in Game of Thrones, Ned had an ipad with him on the bed and was watching Boromir’s scenes in Fellowship of the Ring. I brought him tea and salted cookies. Littlefinger was there too and he was trying smear Catelyn (who was away somewhere on business 🙄) but Sansa proved that none of the things Baelish was saying was true. I was so scared that Ned was going to die because of flu and high fever and I wanted to sleep in a bed next to him, to take care of him. Then, I woke up. 😐 #dreamdiary #weirddreams ——————————————————— #inmydream #lastnight #nedstark #eddardstark #gameofthrones #gameofthronesdream #thestarks #winterfell #catelynstark #littlefinger #petyrbaelish #sansastark #saturdaymorning #saturdaymood #helsinki #torkkelinmäki #kallio @the_starks_of_winterfell @gotinsider @gameofthrones
Hello friends! It's a lovely day for a delicious pastry, isn't it? That's why today's recipe is phyllo börek (pastry) with spinach, onion and feta filling, a quite different version of one of my previous posts. You can also make a vegan version of this by changing a couple of ingredients, and you will find all about it in the blog post. Direct link is in my profile. Have a great weekend! <3 —————————————————— #phyllobörek #phyllopastry #spinachpastry #ispanaklibörek #ruokakuva #foodie #foodiegram #foodblog #instafood #foodporn #foodgasm #foodphotography #foodphotooftheday #foodpics #olympussuomi #feedfeed #helsinki #kallio #torkkelinmäki #foodtodiefor #ilovebaking #bakingismylife #iheartbaking

Why do we use salt in sweet recipes?

When I first started baking, I actually asked this question to myself as: “Why THE HELL do we use salt in a dessert recipe??!”

The Goddesses of Food – One, Two, Three, Women!

by Asli

When I close my eyes and picture my mother in my head, I almost always see her in the kitchen. See, she has always been a housewife and did lots of work in the house all day, but her personal kingdom was always the kitchen. My father, on the other hand, I always picture him in the living room, watching TV or reading newspapers. The only times he’s ever been inside the kitchen are probably the meal times.
