What can you do when the guy you fall for suddenly stops seeing you and goes back to his (ex)-girlfriend? You go “home”, even if it does not feel home so much anymore…
– Mum, do you remember the cake that I was scared of? What was the story of it? – Of course I remember!!! You were about 3-4 years old. It was Sirri’s (my oldest brother) birthday and I wanted to bake a surprise cake for him. I prepared the batter and searched for a cake mould. I had this one shallow mould, and I thought I could bake in it. I asked Hakan (my middle brother) if the cake would be baked well in this one, and he said yes. – But wait, why did you ask my brother? He never ever baked anything in his life! – I don’t know! I just did! He was around! Anyway, I poured the batter in the mould and baked the cake, completely forgetting that it would rise.. So the cake started to rise, pouring out of the mould, making a big mess inside the oven with the pouring batter burning.. I had to take the cake out before it baked completely. But I did not stop there, …
Update on 18.11.2018: This restaurant no longer exists. About 2 weeks ago on Friday I was at school when it suddenly started snowing. Everything happened so quickly, within an hour all Arabia was covered with snow and it didn’t look like it would stop anytime soon! But we had already made plans with friends and no matter how snowy it was, we went out anyway. And our choice was Mare Chiaro on Hämeentie, in Kallio – my new neighbourhood.
I’ve been living in Helsinki for 4.5 years and I never travelled to Stockholm, which is almost next door, until recently. My good friends, Utku & Nisan – a lovely Turkish couple, who moved to Stockholm from Helsinki at the end of last summer so finally this gave me an inspiration for a weekend trip. Now I want to go again.. and again.. and again.. and also to learn Swedish..
This is going to be very emotional.
A few weeks ago, I met my friends Anja (German), Gaspar (Argentinian) and Aneta (Bulgarian) in this little place called Soi Soi Kasvisravintola to have a vegetarian evening on Vaasankatu. We ended up eating, yes, but it was a bit like fighting with the food!
I have never been crazy about ice cream – when I was living in Istanbul, though, at the peak of summer heat I loved eating lemon ice cream most of the time. I actually prefer sorbet to fight against hot weather. But when my friend Malin told me about this one certain Finnish ice cream brand, I thought of nothing but trying it!!
Update on 18.11.2018: This cafe no longer exists. I am not a coffee person really. I like tea, nicely and heavily brewed tea, but I am not so keen on coffee. I drink coffee, yes, but I cannot always tell the difference between good and bad coffee. I have an espresso machine at home, but I bought it to make tiramisu any time I want.
Update on 18.11.2018: This cafe / bar no longer exists (unfortunately!!). By now you already know that I love cooking and baking in my dear kitchen. Well yes I do, but every now and then I like eating out too. So I decided to add this section to my blog and give tips about what to eat where briefly – mmm things that I like eating, places that I like eating in.
I woke up this morning at 8. I was just staring at the ceiling, and thinking to myself, damn I have the greatest headache of all times! Hangover, hallelujah!!
